RemembrancesJanuary, 2011 Carolyn and I are so sorry to hear about Larry’s passing away in June. He did have a terrible time with Parkinson’s disease. We certainly shall miss Larry. Even though it was many years since we had seen him, he had stayed in our home in Jackson several times before that and was always welcome. Fond remembrances include his meeting my parents in Decatur, Alabama and visiting us in Milano, Italia. He was certainly the quintessential New Yorker. I recall his telling about the time he returned from the Korean War and burst into tears as the plane neared New York City. And, man, was Larry full of life! He could break up any crowd with his quick wit. He was highly educated and put up with me as I dragged him down to see the Radio City Music Hall Christmas shows. He gave in our living room a review of “The Unicorn Tapestries” that would make any academic proud. We were his guests at “Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway. I also remember that his mother, father, and Sister Gay were very kind, gracious people. They invited me over for dinner in their home repeatedly during my Columbia[University] years. Hal and Carolyn [White]
